The Digital Volunteers CIC is a new volunteering organisation based in South Wales which helps people volunteer their digital skills in educational projects in their community.
Over the past 2 terms we have developed a cluster of after-school coding clubs in Torfaen which is growing, and are starting a new cluster in Newport this term. It is a great opportunity for undergraduates or students on apprenticeships, and experienced professionals, to volunteer and share their skills with younger pupils.
The Digital Volunteers is being funded by Communities First Newport and Torfaen to run a number of new coding clubs.
The following have been confirmed:
Pill Primary – Mondays 3.15pm
St. Michaels Primary – Wednesdays 3.30pm
Maindee Primary – Fridays 3.15pm
St. Woollos Primary – TBC
Woodlands Community Primary – Mondays 3.15pm
Garnteg Primary – Fridays 3.15pm
Greenmeadow Primary – TBC
Penygarn Primary – TBC
Blaenavon Heritage Primary – TBC
Abersychan High School – TBC
We are keen to assign 2 volunteers to each club, the idea being that we have a pool of volunteers so that if anyone can’t make a session then we have other volunteers who can pitch in.
We can meet up with potential volunteers and give a talk into the benefits of volunteering for The Digital Volunteers, go through the volunteer resource pack provided by Code Club UK, and talk about the clubs already up and running in the area.
If people are interested then they would have a volunteer induction and have DBS checks (outsourced to See Science).
Any support you could give to this community initiative would be fantastic, and please share this information amongst your colleagues.
